THE ARIZONA ECONOMY IS REALLY THRIVING ACROSS THE STATE.

WE HAVE DONE AN AMAZING JOB OUR ENTIRE TIME IN TERMS WHEN WE WERE FORMED 104 YEARS AGO IN PLANNING FOR WATER.
IN TERMS OF THE GROUND WATER MANAGEMENT ACT, MOVING FORWARD, WE'VE DONE AMAZING JOB TO SECURE WATER SUPPLIES.
OUR CITIES, OUR COUNTIES AND ACROSS THE STATE HAVE BEEN PLANNING.
WE HAVE THE COLORADO RIVER, THE SALT RIVER, WE HAVE ALL OF THE SUPPLIES THAT WE'RE TAPPING INTO.
WE'VE DONE A GREAT JOB IN TERMS OF PLANNING, IN TERMS OF GROUND WATER MANAGEMENT.
WE'RE ONE OF THE ONLY STATES THAT HAS A GROUND WATER MANAGEMENT PLAN VERSUS THE ENTIRE UPPER BASIN AND PROBABLY OUR SISTER STATES.
IT'S JUST AN IMPORTANT STEP THAT WE'VE MADE FOR PLANNING BUT NEED TO DO MORE TO PLAN FOR OUR NEAR FUTURE.
TED: HAVE THE GOALPOSTS MOVED A LITTLE BIT BECAUSE OF THE COLORADO RIVER COMPACT AND THE FUSSING AND FIGHTING INVOLVED THERE, AND WITH THE ADVANCEMENT OF A.I., AND ADVANCED MANUFACTURING, THING MOVE, THINGS SHIFT.

YES, FOR THE COLORADO RIVER, IT IS A STRESS RIVER, IT'S BEEN A STRESS RIVER FOR A VERY LONG TIME.
HOW IN ARIZONA WE'VE PLANNED FOR THE STRESS, BUT IT HAS BEEN SPED UP.
WE'RE AT A CRITICAL TIME, THE COLORADO RIVER NEGOTIATIONS ARE AT A CRITICAL POINT.
WE'VE PUT FORWARD WITH THE STATE ALONG WITH NEVADA AND CALIFORNIA, A VERY REASONABLE PLAN, AND IT'S UP TO THE HANDS OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, SPECIFICALLY THIS ADMINISTRATION AND THE DEPARTMENT OF INTERIOR TO MAKE A DECISION.
IT IS MAKING SEVERE OPPORTUNITIES IN TERMS OF WHERE WE NEED TO GO WITH INFRASTRUCTURE, WHICH WE WILL TALK ABOUT, BUT IT'S ALSO WE'RE PREPARED TO MAKE THE CHANGES AND TO MOVE FORWARD, AND THAT'S WHY I'M SITTING HERE IN TERMS OF THE COMMERCIAL REAL ESTATE INDUSTRY AND HOW WE GROW, IT'S PART OF THE SOLUTION, HOW WE FUND IT, HOW WE GET THE INFRASTRUCTURE BUILT.

IT'S NOW TIME TO EXECUTE ON ALL THOSE PLANS THAT WE'VE HAD FOR THE PAST 30 YEARS, BUT NOW WE'RE ALSO LOOKING AHEAD.
WE HAVE CREATED OUR ADVANCED WATER PURIFICATION, WHICH IS USING RECYCLED WATER, THOSE PLANTS ARE BUILT ACROSS THIS COUNTY AND OTHER COUNTIES, PINAL AND PIMA COUNTY, THAT'S A GREAT INTERIM TOOL AND REAL ESTATE DEVELOPMENT IS HELPING FINANCE THAT, GROWTH IS HELPING PAY FOR THAT ALONG WITH IMPACT FEES AND OTHER THINGS HAPPENING IN THE CITIES AND COUNTIES, DEPENDING WHERE YOU ARE.
THEN WE'RE MOVING TO AUGMENTATION, THERE ARE DIFFERENT PLANS THAT WERE RECENTLY ANNOUNCED BETWEEN CALIFORNIA AND ARIZONA IN TERMS OF TAKING THE DESAL WATER IN SAN DIEGO TO HERE.
THOSE ARE ALL THINGS AS WELL AS THE GROUND WATER MANAGEMENT PLAN ITSELF.
IT ALLOWED FOR MOVING WATER FROM THE HARQUAHALA BASIN, THE TOWN OF QUEEN CREEK, OTHER COMMUNITIES ARE PURCHASING WATER.
THAT'S WHAT WE CALL THE INTERIM WATER.
THEN WE NEED TO LOOK TO LARGER SUPPLIES OF WATER FOR OUR STATE.
IT IS A DIMINISHING SUPPLY WITH THE COLORADO RIVER, BUT WE'RE PREPARED AND PART OF COMMERCIAL REAL ESTATE, WE'RE PART OF THE SOLUTIONS.

OBVIOUSLY, WATER IS MAJOR CONCERN.

WE HAVE TO GET THAT BUILT.
AS WELL, NUCLEAR POWER, PALO VERDE AT THE TIME, UNTIL RECENTLY THE LARGEST NUCLEAR POWER PLANT IN THE UNITED STATES, WHICH IS PURELY OFF RECLAIMED WATER, TO YOUR QUESTION.
THE ENERGY AND THE WATER NEXUS, THAT IS GOING IN FULL FORCE, AND NOW WE'RE AS WELL MOVING INTO NATURAL GAS, WE HAVE PLENTY OF SOLAR AND IT'S ALL OF THE ABOVE.

WE RECENTLY SPOKE WITH ROGER NAYLOR ABOUT HIS BOOK AND NOTABLE HIKING TRAILS AND PLACES TO DINE.
THIS IS UPDATE OF 2014 BOOK, CORRECT?
>> IT IS.
THAT AND COMPLETELY NEW EDITION AS WELL.
THE ORIGINAL ONE, THE PUBLISHER WENT OUT OF BUSINESS, SO THE RIGHTS REVERTED BACK TO ME, I SAVED A BIG CHUNK OF IT BUT ADDED 40 NEW RESTAURANTS AND TRAILS.
A TOTAL OF 70 RESTAURANTS, 70 TRAILS IN HERE.

>> THERE'S ALWAYS GREAT PLACES TO EAT IN ARIZONA.
MAY NOT BE RIGHT THERE AT THE END OF THE TRAILHEAD.
WHEN YOU WORKED UP AN APPETITE, A LITTLE DRIVE IS NOT A BAD THING.
TED: CAN WE LOOK AT THE TRAILS, RIVER TRAIL AND CLIFF DWELLERS LODGE, WHERE IS THIS?
>> ON THE ARIZONA STRIP, MIDDLE OF NOWHERE.
THE RIVER TRAIL IS A BEAUTIFUL UNDERRATED LITTLE TRAIL AT LEE'S FERRY, GOES ALONG THE RIVER, YOU GET BEAUTIFUL CLIFFS THROUGH AN OLD MORMON SETTLEMENT, YOU CAN HIKE UP AND GET WORKOUT ON THE SPENCER TRAIL, AND A FEW MILES AWAY, CLIFF DWELLERS LODGE AND RESTAURANT, A WONDERFUL OUTPOST MAKE A FANTASTIC BURGER.
YOU ARE HOPING THE FOOD IS EDIBLE, THEY HAVE A SUPERB BURGER AND WONDERFUL PATIO, IT RESONATES WITH THE FINE SPICE OF REMOTENESS BECAUSE YOU ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF CIVILIZATION.

BURGER LOOKS HUGE, THE FRIES ARE IMPORTANT, TOO.
>> THEY DO GOOD FRIES, BUT CAN YOU TRY ONION RINGS AND MIX IT UP.

>> THE WESTERN UNIT, IT'S A GOOD CLIMB, IT'S A CLASSIC DESERT TREK THROUGH ALONG THE RIDGELINE THERE.
YOU GET THE BEST VIEWS IN TUCSON, AND IT'S JUST A SPECTACULAR -- ONE OF MY FIRST SERIOUS DESERT HIKES, SO I REMEMBER IT AS LIFE CHANGING, AND INSTEAD OF A BURGER, I'VE GOT MANY GREAT BURGER PLACES IN TUCSON, WE WENT WITH A SONORAN HOT DOG, THE O.G.
OF SONORAN HOT DOGS, THIS IS SPECIAL ARIZONA FLAVOR, ALMOST HARD TO FIND ON THIS SIDE OF THE BORDER OUTSIDE OF ARIZONA, STARTS WITH A BACON WRAPPED HOT DOG, ARE TWO MORE BEAUTIFUL WORDS THAN BACON WRAPPED, AND TUCKED IN A SOFT BOAT OF DOUGH AND PILED ON WITH AVALANCHE OF INGREDIENTS, PINTO BEANS, DICED ONION AND TOMATO.
HE WON A JAMES BEARD AWARD FOR A HOT DOG.
THAT TELLS YOU SOMETHING.
>> THE LAST ONE HERE WE HAVE TIME FOR IN MONUMENT VALLEY, THE WILDCAT TRAIL.
IS THERE ANY PLACE TO EAT CLOSE IN MONUMENT TRAIL?
>> KAYENTA, THE NAVAJO BURGER COMES ON FRY BREAD.
I LOVE THE NAVAJO TACO, YOU GET GOOD VEGETABLES AND MIX OF FLAVORS AND THE WILDCAT TRAIL IS PROBABLY MY FAVORITE SINGLE TRAIL IN THE ENTIRE STATE.
THROWS A LOOP AROUND THE WEST MITTEN THERE, YOU ARE IN THE HEART OF THE WEST.
TED: HOW DIFFICULT TO GET TO THAT PARTICULAR TRAIL?
>> IT'S RIGHT THERE.
YOU WALK OUT FROM THE VISITOR CENTER, AND YOU DO NOT NEED A NAVAJO GUIDE, YOU GET TO ENJOY IT, ABOUT 3 1/2 MILES AROUND, AND YOU REMEMBER IT FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE.
TED: SEEING STUFF ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE SCREEN AS FAR AS THE FOOD IS CONCERNED.
HOT DOGS AND HAMBURGERS.
ARE THERE VEGETARIAN OPTIONS?

I'M MARRIED TO A VEGETARIAN WOMAN.
I EAT HEALTHIER, WHEN I WAS IN MY 20s, I LIVED ON BURGERS.
NOW I TRY TO BALANCE IT OUT TO BE A LITTLE MORE SPECIAL.
